You have entered Mr Gay Britain this year. What made you decide to do that?

I volunteer for my local pride and help with their social media and organising fund raisers and events to help raise money to support my local LGBTQ+ community and safe spaces. I’ve loved volunteering and helping to make a difference amongst my local community, but I really want to make a difference on a national scale; and help to make a change by trying to be the example that I wasn’t shown myself as a young gay man growing up.

What will your campaign for Mr Gay Britain consist of?

If I win Mr Gay Great Britain, I would love to be a positive role model for LGBTQ+ youth, and to help raise awareness of the issues that our community faces, educate people, and drive change in parliament to help protect our rights and those of the trans community!

You are also an underwear model how did that come about?

I was contacted on Instagram by a small brand who asked if I would model their underwear for an adertisment. I was initially hesitant, but eventually said yes, and gradually overtime as my followers increased the brands got bigger. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with, and be gifted clothing, by some of the biggest brands in the world! I’ve also been lucky enough to work with some of the most amazing photographers, and models too!

Do you feel that LGBTQ+ rights are progressing in this country or going backwards?

The UK has some great LGBTQ rights and the equality act was a great step forward! However there is still so much to do, with hate crime rising by over 180% in the last 5 years for the LGBTQ community, which is unacceptable. The Goverment should be cracking down on reducing this and protecting our community and also banning conversion therapy and stop using trans community for political point scoring!

For those who don’t know when does Mr Gay Britain take place?

The final takes place at Alnwick Gardens on 26th August. I was lucky enough to visit the venue recently and it’s so beautiful, so please come along!

What will you have to do to win Mr Gay Britain?

The competition consists of multiple rounds which includes charity fundraisers for Pride Action North who provide support to the LGBTQ+ community, including counselling for sexual and domestic abuse. The Charlie & Carter Foundation who provide financial services and support to families with seriously ill children with life limiting conditions. It also consists of gathering support on social media, an on the day public vote, an LGBTQ+ history exam, three different runways - beachwear, formalwear, and a national outfit of our choice. There is also the opportunity to be voted ‘Mr Congeniality’ - all finalists can vote for who they want to win. The competition finishes off with an overall judge’s vote.

What will you do if you win Mr Gay Britain?

There is no cash prize or fancy reward, but I believe what you do win is worth so much more! The winner gets to represent the LGBTQ+ community in parliament and discuss issues facing the LGBTQ+ community to help to drive real change, to be a voice, and help to protect our rights as part of the LGBTQ+ community

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I often volunteer and help to raise money and awareness for my local pride. I also co-host on a local radio show discussing LGBTQ+ issues, as well as upcoming events, photoshoots, and the gym.

What are you plans for the next 12 months?

I intend to continue to raise money and awareness for my local pride events, as well as continuing to campaign for Mr Gay Great Britain, which I of course would love to win!
